6 Great Glock Upgrades

Love your Glock, but wish it offered just a little something more than it does? Look into one of these 6 Glock upgrades which can improve handling, accuracy, and more.

Install a Threaded Barrel with a Compensator

A threaded barrel for your Glock will give you the flexibility to install a muzzle device like a compensator.

This is the real upgrade here. A compensator can lower the felt recoil of your handgun by nearly as much as 50%, all without adversely affecting shot power.

In turn, you should be able to make faster, more accurate follow up shots.

Remove the Replace the Stock Guide Rod

Nothing against the stock guide rod in your Glock, but it’s made of polymer. That means it’s basically immune to corrosion, but it also means it’s very light.

The latter condition is the issue here. The lighter polymer guide rod does not stabilize the muzzle.

A heavier guide rod like a steel or tungsten guide rod will add stability – and the added mass will also help absorb some recoil.

Install Night Sights

Glock night sights can help keep you hidden in the dark, while also enabling your proficiency at acquiring and contacting a target.

Another great thing about Glock night sights is that they’re powered by tritium, not batteries, which means they will never “die” – and they have a super-long half-life of over a decade.

Throw on a WML

The thing about Glock night sights is that, while they can help you shoot more accurately in the dark, they don’t actually cast a light on a target.

A WML, or weapon-mounted light for your Glock, can do that. What you can’t see can kill you, and a WML can help you make a more positive ID, especially in adverse conditions.

Glock handguns are generally outfitted with a section of barrel under the rail – which makes it easy and intuitive to add a shooting attachment like a WML.

Get a Red Dot Sight That Allows for Cowitness with Your Iron Sights

If you have a Glock slide that can accommodate an RDS, then this is another great Glock upgrade to make.

A red dot sight allows for easier and more intuitive shooting than iron sights, especially in the dark or when shooting from an uncomfortable position.

Moreover, a red dot sight, which utilizes only a single aiming point, eliminates the issue of sight radius.

The great thing is that there are red dot sights you can also use with iron sights, which means you can use both, simultaneously in reference to each other – which is called “cowitness.”

Make sure if you do get an RDS, get one you can use for cowitness.

Get a Better Glock Slide

There are great Glock slide upgrades out there that come with some of the upgrades (like threaded barrels and Glick night sights) that are mentioned here.

Some Glock slides are also made with machined cutouts that lighten the reciprocating mass of the slide, which lowers felt recoil and results in faster, snappier cycling and better handling.

A better Glock slide can also offer you additional attachment points for shooting accessories as well.
