How to Choose Louisville Slugger Baseball Helmets for Youth Players

It can be especially difficult to find the right baseball gear for you, let alone someone else. There are numerous brands and seemingly infinite pieces of equipment to choose from that it can sometimes become overwhelming when shopping for these vital accessories. Where can you even start?

There are so many factors to consider when you are choosing the right baseball gear for your son or daughter in particular. Fortunately, there are several steps you can take to ensure that they get the best of the best so that they can perform at their highest level while also having the most fun. After all, that’s the number one goal!

Fortunately, there are several top brands to choose from that you can depend on. One in particular that has some of the most experience in the game is Louisville Slugger. This brand has been around for over 135 years and has been providing stellar baseball equipment to all players, from youth to professionals.

When you are looking for the right Louisville Slugger baseball gear for your son or daughter, there are several things you need to look for, depending on the piece of equipment. Let’s look at one of the most important baseball gear items and how to choose the right one: batting helmets.

Batting Helmet Selection
We all know the purpose of batting helmets in baseball: safety. Before we get to helmet fittings for your son or daughter’s head, you need to ensure that all of the necessary features are present.

Ear Guards
For almost all baseball leagues (shockingly not including the majors), earflaps need to be built into the helmet on both sides. Make sure the helmet you purchase for your son or daughter has one on each side to best protect their ears, heads, and faces.

Chin Strap or Jaw Guard
Adding a chin strap is not mandatory, but it can be a great assistant to your child’s health. It keeps the helmet on your child’s head more efficiently when swinging and running, which increases their safety. You could even find helmets with jaw guards to further increase their safety.

Faceguard
Depending on the league, you also may need to have a faceguard on your helmet. This will protect your son or daughter’s face from the baseball and even their own bat. However, it can greatly inhibit their sight. You also have the option to purchase a helmet without this feature, then add a faceguard on later if you so chose.

Measuring and Sizing
Now for the fun part: figuring out the right size for your child! First, measure the circumference of your child’s head and use that as a proper indicator of their helmet size (much like you would a hat). Then, have your child try on the helmet and use the “shake” test.

If your child shakes his or her head and the helmet moves too much, it is too big. Once you find a helmet that doesn’t shake when they move their head, pay attention to where the brim of the helmet lies. It should be an inch or so above his or her eyebrows and point straight.

When the helmet sits too far up on the child’s face, they won’t be comfortable and will be more susceptible to injury. If it’s too forward, then they will have very limited sight.

Senior Shaft Golf Clubs and the Need for a Higher Flex

As golfers age, they naturally lose some of their strength and mobility.
