6 Potential Benefits of Switching to High Bay LED Lights

High bay lighting is necessary to illuminate large indoor spaces, such as warehouses, gyms, indoor arenas, and other such spaces. There are many types of high bay lighting and high bay lighting fixtures, and some of the most popular high bay lighting comes in the form of fluorescent lights or HID, or high-intensity discharge lighting, both of which are noted for the quality of the light they produce.

However, a highly practical alternative, in the form of high bay LED lights, has been growing in popularity. If you’re considering a facility lighting upgrade, here are some of the impressive benefits of high bay LED lights.

1. Energy savings on lighting
If LEDs are renowned for one thing is the fact that they’re energy-efficient. Just to add some perspective, HID lights are popular, generally, because they are relatively energy-efficient and produce intense, bright light. Fluorescent lights are also highly energy-efficient and have a long lifespan.

But, by comparison, LED high bay lights are significantly more energy-efficient. Just how much you can save depends on the type of lighting, such as halogen, HID, or fluorescent, that you are using, but LEDs are far, far more energy-efficient than any of these alternatives.

2. Address your HVAC woes
While fluorescent high bay lighting isn’t really noted for producing a lot of heat, both halogen and HID lights are. These lights burn hot, and in large indoor areas, like high bays, that stacks up.

It also means that cooling costs in the summer are commensurately higher. Compared to HID and halogen lights, LED lights produce nearly no heat at all. They do produce heat but it is much lower by comparison – which may be able to help you slash your cooling bill, too.

3. The superior longevity of high bay LED lights
Halogen lights don’t boast impressive lifespans, but some HID lights can last upwards of 10,000 hours and many fluorescent lights can last 25,000 or longer. The latter fact is a big draw of fluorescent lights. However, most if not all LEDs will last 25,000 hours or much longer – some are rated to last 50,000 hours, and some claim to last nearly as long as 100,000 hours.

4. LEDs are better for the environment in more ways than one
Obviously, the fact that high bay LED lights consume less energy means they’re better for the environment, but there’s something else to consider. Fluorescent lights contain mercury and many HID lights contain mercury or other harmful metals and salts. LEDs do not; many of them are entirely recyclable.

5. Lower maintenance costs
Because high bay LED lights last longer than halogens, HID lamps, and even fluorescents, your organization may be able to save on maintenance costs since they will need to be replaced less frequently.

6. High-performance lighting
Finally, consider the performance of LED lighting as a bonus. LEDs distribute light evenly and some can provide a truly uniform spread of light regardless of the beam angle or lumen output. They are also available in a wide range of correlated color temperatures and in designs that are intended to serve as direct replacements for fluorescent and HID lights.
