“Get over here.” – Scorpion
Scorpion is one of the most iconic characters from Mortal Kombat, a fighting game series that started as an arcade game in the 90s. Scorpion is an undead ninja that’s on a quest to avenge the death of his family, clan, and himself. His weapon is a kunai spear, which he uses to harpoon opponents. When he hooks someone, he’ll yell out “get over here” before pulling them toward him.

Duke Nukem is the main protagonist of an action game full of aliens and explosions. Duke his a manly man that acts as a bit of a satirical take on 90s action heroes like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and John Wayne. Duke says this iconic line while blasting away some enemies and it has since been synonymous with tough guys everywhere.

At first, Skyrim seems like a very serious game with its deathly dungeons and scary monsters. But this Dungeons & Dragons-like open world game is full of a lot of silly moments. This includes one line that’s uttered by a variety of guards: “I used to be an adventurer like you…” This quote has become a meme ever since, making it one of the most popular lines in video game history.

The original Resident Evil shaped the survival horror genre, full of tension-building puzzles and jump scares. But people also remember it for the interesting characters and their dialogue. Fallout is an apocalyptic open world RPG that has a ton of memorable characters and mutated monsters. But it’s even iconic from the very start thanks to this opening narration, explaining what has happened to the world. If there’s one piece of dialogue that truly makes gamers feel something, however, it’s this line. Toad has been saying this to Mario since the 80s every time that Mario reaches a castle. Jumping lava? Killing baddies? Riding Yoshis? Well, too bad, Bowser has moved Princess Peach to somewhere else entirely. Start again!
