The Advantages of a Roller Delayed AR - eWriterForYou - Best Guest Posting Site

The Advantages of a Roller Delayed AR

The vast majority of AR-style rifles use a direct gas impingement system, in concert with a buffer system, to cycle the bolt carrier group.

It is tried, true, tested, and works. But it’s also not your only option, and more and more homebuilders are looking into the possibility of building roller delayed ARs, which use a roller delayed blowback system rather than a gas system.

It turns out there are a lot of advantages. Here are some of the best.

Shorter, Better for Pistol Builds

A roller delayed AR has no gas system, which means it has no corresponding buffer system. That makes the whole build inherently lighter, and more importantly, shorter. That also makes a roller delayed blowback AR better for a pistol build because there will be no buffer sticking off the back.

And, before you go and say you’ll just get a direct blowback AR because they also skip the buffer, keep in mind that direct blowback is a lot messier and produces more recoil and port pop.

Cleaner, Less Maintenance

Gas systems blast fouling all over the inside of the action, into the trigger group, and of course, inside the gas block, tube, and all over the bolt carrier group. Roller delayed AR platforms are cleaner-shooting and will require less maintenance.

Smoother Shooting

Not that you can’t tune a rifle’s gas system for smooth operation – you can – but a roller delayed blowback action is inherently smooth shooting when compared to a rifle with direct gas impingement, especially if the rifle is overgassed, and let’s face it, most are from the factory. In this manner, roller delayed systems reduce recoil and improve handling, too.

More Reliable

Occluded gas tubes, worn gas rings, and fatigued buffer springs can all hamper the reliability of direct gas impingement. There are more parts to fail, making roller delayed blowback operation inherently more reliable.

Better for Running Suppressed

Gas systems don’t always respond well to suppression since they vent a lot of gas back near the operator. Roller delayed blowback ARs don’t suffer from the same issue.

Longer-Lasting Components

When the gas rings of your bolt carrier group wear out, you will start to experience issues with cycling, but this is only one of the potential issues that plagues a gas-system drive sporting rifle. The components of a roller delayed blowback AR are more robust and generally will last longer than those of a gas impingement system.

Run Whatever Handguard You Want

Not that this is typically a problem with conventional AR builds, but don’t let the profile of a gas block stop you from adding whatever handguard appeals to you. With a roller delayed blowback AR, there won’t be a gas block at all, so you can install effectively any handguard you like most.
