In the Christmas Tree
Probably the best place to use Christmas ribbon is in the tree itself. If you do decorate with ribbon, start with that first, as it will be difficult to weave in and out of the branches once you have lights, ornaments, and other decorations already in place.
When decorating the tree, remember to use ribbon that reflects the colors and elements of your other decorations, but you don’t need to stick with just one type or design. You can use two or even three types of ribbon in your decoration. You can even make bows and tree toppers using ribbon.
In Your Other Christmas Greenery
Your other Christmas greenery – like wreaths, garlands, and swags – are also perfect for decorating with Christmas ribbon. The same advice goes here: start with ribbon first so you can add the other decorations after the ribbon is in place.
If you’re also using ribbon in the tree, you can use the same ribbon in your other greenery but you don’t have to. By mixing and matching different colors and styles in your different greenery, you can create a more dynamic and expressive space.
Over Mantles
Got a bare mantle? That’s a prime place for a nutcracker or two, a PVC Christmas garland, and a just a bit of Christmas ribbon. Two Helpful Christmas Ribbon Decoration Techniques
There are two basic but helpful decoration techniques with ribbons that you might want to know in your decorating.
One is called cascading, in which you weave the ribbon in and out of a tree’s branches, from the top to the bottom, creating flowing undulations. This technique is most commonly used on trees but can also be used elsewhere.
The other is spiraling, which is fairly self explanatory. It is best used on columns, railings, pedestals, and other thin vertical structures.
