Do You Know Where Your Water Comes From?

People expect their water supply to be clean and clear, expecting it to be treated properly so it can be safely used for drinking, bathing, cooking, and for everything that we need water for. However, it has come to the point where people expect clean water from their tap without considering where the water comes from.

If people know more about the source of their water supply, they might have a better understanding of how valuable and limited it is as a resource. But also they might know how clean and pure their water supply is.

The Most Common Water Sources

Humans have always relied on the same water sources throughout history, and it is no different today. With a few new additions, the most common water sources are the following:

Surface water

This is the most common source, and it includes lakes, rivers, springs, streams, and reservoirs. These sources are used to supply drinking water and wells, and it is the most common source in many countries.

Ground water

This is often water supply that comes from an aquifer, or an underground water supply. The water is often stored underground surrounded by permeable rock, and can be stored deep underground.

In many countries where surface water is scarce, such as those in the Middle East, aquifers provide much of the water supply.

Recycled water

This is a water supply that reuses water through a treatment and filtration system. Often recycled water uses gray water, which means it is water that comes from washing machines, dishwashers, and sinks.

Recycledwater is often used for agriculture, manufacturing companies, factories, and even municipal water supplies for industrial or even home use. The water has already been treated and filtered which means it is safe for use.

In some countries where water supplies are limited, technology has made it possible to build treatment plants for recycled water. Singapore has been using recycled water through its NEWater plant, and has made the island state an example for responsible water use.

Make Sure Your Water is Safe

If you know where your water comes from, then you would know what the possible contaminants and pollutants can be found in your water supply. Even if the water is properly treated, your water can come from a distant area, and wells, pipes, and water tanks could contaminate your water supply.

So how can you make sure your water is safe? The best way is to install a water filtration system in your home. But you have to make sure that the filter you choose suits your area and the possible contaminants in it, as different filters can filter specific minerals and pollutants.

Also, you need to be prepared to maintain your filtration system. For example, if you use an Everpure water treatment system, you need an Everpure replacement for the filter cartridges every six months or so, or as the manufacturer recommends.

You have to use the right Everpure replacement as it needs to fit the system to properly filter out what debris and chemicals are present in the water. If you don’t maintain it properly, you might end up making your supply even more contaminated.

So the next time you take a drink of water, ask yourself if you know where your water comes from, and consider if your water is free from chemicals and pollutants.
