The Fujikura Ventus: Red, Black and Blue

Made with extremely strong and flexible, ultra high-modulus Pitch 70 ton carbon fiber and stabilized with the company’s proprietary VeloCore Technology, Fujikura Ventus shafts are in a league of their own.

There are three main echelons of Ventus shafts, though – the Red, the Blue and the Black.

Each of these offers something a little different to golfers of different needs. Here’s what you can expect.

The Ventus Red

The Red is the most flexible, and most forgiving shaft in the Fujikura Ventus lineup. It sports a stiff tip, a firm midsection, and an ultra-stiff handle section.

Available in ratings from regular to extra stiff, the Ventus Red ranges in torque from 2.8 to 3.8, and in weight from 59 to 92.5 grams.

All versions of the Ventus Red have either a low to a mid-low kick point, and produce medium spin. All of them produce mid to high launch profiles except the Ventus Red 8 and 9, which produce medium launch profiles.

Who Should Swing It?

Because of the more forgiving nature of the Ventus Red, it is more suitable for players with slower swing speeds. It might also be more suitable as a beginner shaft, and in some instances, as a senior golf shaft.

The Ventus Blue

The Ventus Blue is Fujikura’s middle-of-the-road Ventus. It lies between the Red and the Black with an ultra-stiff tip, a stiff midsection, and a firm handle.

It is available in flex ratings from regular to tour-spec extra stiff, and ranges in torque from 2.8 to 3.9 and in weight from 58 to 94 grams. Interestingly, this gives it a wider range in flex rating, torque and weight than the Red.

There is a little more variety in the Blue in terms of spin and launch profile, too. Most Ventus Blue shafts have a mid kick point and produce low launch and medium spin. However, the Blue 5 R2 has a low-mid kick point, produces medium launch and spin, and the Ventus Blue 7, 8 and 9 (select models) produce lower launch and spin.

Who Should Swing It?

Realistically, there is a Ventus Blue for pretty much any golfer. Only those with very slow and very fast swing speeds should look elsewhere – such as at the Red or the Black.

The Ventus Black

The Ventus Black is Fujikura’s high performer and should be reserved for those with the highest, most aggressive swing speeds and tempos.

With a stiff midsection and ultra-stiff handles and tips, the Ventus Black offers flex ratings between stiff and extra stiff.

It ranges in weight from 59 to 93 grams, and in torque from 2.8 to 3.5. It also offers less range in terms of kick point, launch, and spin. All Fujikura Ventus Black shafts have a high kick point and produce low launch and spin across the board.

Who Should Swing It?

The Ventus Black is the shaft of choice for players with the fastest swing speeds and most aggressive tempos. Unless your swing speed is 90 MPH+, a Red or a Blue shaft is probably better, and the Black can stand up to swing speeds of 100 MPH or greater.
